Camera Manual

First, collect your camera, put the camera strap safely behind your neck then turn your camera on by flipping the power switch to the on position.   Make sure that the mode dial is on manual, if it is not then turn the dial so that it is on manual.  Manual is clearly marked as an uppercase M.

Scenario 1- A bedroom lit by overhead incandescent lights.  Subject: Teddy Bear.

To first get the proper shutter speed we must evaluate the amount of light in the room.  The room is well lit and the teddy bear is under direct lighting so well will choose a faster shutter speed because we want less light to be let in.  Change the shutter speed by turning the main command dial to the right for a faster shutter speed. SS: 200

The aperture we are looking for will keep only the teddy bear in focus and will blur the background, an ideal aperture will be around 5.6.  To get this aperture turn the sub-command dial to the right.  Aperture: 5.6

Ideally when choosing an ISO, the lower the better, this doesn't mean that there won't be times when a high ISO will be called for, but using the smallest ISO possible will give you your desired effect.  For our use, in our well lit room, an ISO of 200 will be perfect.  To change the ISO look to the back of the camera, and right next to the monitor there will be a row of buttons.  Look for the thumbnail button that has ISO over it.  Hold down that button while looking at the control panel, and turn the main command dial to the left for a lower ISO.  ISO:200

When choosing a WB, it all depends on the lighting of the room or location you are shooting at.  Because we are inside a room that is well light by incandescent bulbs we will be choosing the incandescent setting.  To select a WB mode look again to the same row of buttons where we found the thumbnail button, and choose the button below the ISO button that has a picture of a key on it, and WB above it.  Hold down the button while you turn the main command dial with your finger, look to the control panel and when you see an icon of a lightbulb stop and keep it there.

Now you are ready to take your picture!
