Choice Two, Ophelia

1. The woman in white on the black ground.

2. I believe the woman is dead because she looks blue, and is motionless. But if the woman were to be alive she would appear to be experiencing a unique sense of depression, although she is not deliberately sad looking her body placement indicates an unhappiness with her own self.

3. I believe that the photograph was taken in the morning, maybe between 8:30 and 10:30.

4. The light sources are the windows, and the lamps.

5. The environment is a home, maybe bolonging to a lower middle class family.

6. There is a robe on the railing of the stairs, and a pair of slippers on the actual stairs themselves.

7. The female subject does not appear to be wearing shoes.

8. Ophelia is a character in Shakespeares play, Hamlet. Ophelia dies in the end, from climbing a tree when a branch broke, and she drowned in the brook beneath. It is offered that Ophelia actually had comitted suicide.

Story:

One morning the woman tripped off the staircase, an unusual occurance in her otherwise boring morning, her robe then slipped from her hands, and as she fell, she turned over, landing back down on the unforgiving living room floor. Her slippers, left on the stairs where she took her last steps, were a sad reminderer that this woman, once breathing, and brimming with life, now breathes no more.

In her final moments she looked to the sky, and recalled the heartache she had experienced. Laying there, growing colder, and colder, she began to imagine the way things could have been. And with her dying breath she whispered to herself "If only."
